Description
The Stables is a building from the later 19th century that was originally a stable courtyard for Wyndham Lodge. It was converted into apartments in 2018. The structure is made of coursed sandstone and features a slate roof. The entrance is through an arch with a dripstone mould and a blank plaque above, topped with a finial.
The building includes a two-storey hipped wing at the western end, which has a Gothic arched window with a mullion. One-storey wings flank the gateway. Inside the western wing, there are two storeys with bracketed eaves, a slightly advanced centre gable, and a moulded stone stringcourse at the first floor. The building has five windows in total, a loft door, and three ground floor doors, all featuring keystones. The late 19th-century glazing includes adapted opening top lights.
Wyndham Lodge, which was formerly the Melton and District War Memorial Hospital, along with its steps, balustrade, and walls, forms a group with The Stables, which was previously listed as the Outpatients Department.
