Description

The stable wing at The Lodge is a stable block, likely built in the mid-18th century, with a 19th-century extension at the rear. It is constructed of red brick and features dentilled eaves, with roofs made of plain tiles and slate, including a 19th-century integral eaves chimney at the back.

The building is two storeys high and has a continuous range that runs from north-west to south-east, divided by a central round-arched carriage opening. The rear extension is located on the north side. The front has a four-window arrangement, with two 2-light casements on each side of the central carriageway at the first floor, and an additional single-light casement on the right. The ground floor includes round-arched doorways flanked by single and double segmental-arched window openings on either side. All windows have altered designs, and some doorways have been partly bricked up.

Above the central carriageway arch is a large clock face, topped by a flat-roofed structure that projects through the eaves. This structure is capped with a balustrade made of turned oak balusters, which fronts an octagonal cupola that houses a bell and a weather vane. The rear features a gable over the carriage arch with a dentilled verge, and there is a hipped parallel range to the right. To the left, there are two casements and various plain boarded doors leading to doorways and openings. The rear wing contains three carriage shed entrances under elliptical brick arches, which are flanked by slightly advanced brick panels with inset arched panels at each end. The deep eaves are supported by corbelled brick brackets.

Inside, stable stalls remain in the north-west wing.
