Description
The gates, piers, and walls located to the south-west of the house at the entrance to The Lodge date from the early 19th century. They feature cast-iron gates, ashlar piers, and walls. The central carriage gateway is flanked by pedestrian gateways, with swept approach walls on each side. The eastern wall connects to the house at The Lodge. The design includes a pair of carriageway gates and two single pedestrian gates, which have main standards and balusters topped with arrow-head caps, along with plain top and bottom rails and a double middle rail with inset latch cases. There are two free-standing piers alongside two piers that are attached to the walls, each topped with a pyramid cap set on a cornice, and featuring a plain entablature and a moulded chamfered plinth. Swept ashlar retaining walls are positioned on either side of the outside piers, with plain coping and a chamfered plinth. This structure forms a group with the house at the entrance to The Lodge.
