Description
The Lodge is a two-storey lodge built around the mid-20th century, constructed from dressed sandstone resting on a sandstone ashlar plinth, with chamfered ashlar quoins and a slate roof. The building has a T-shaped layout and features a three-bay front with a full-height canted porch at the center. This porch is supported by four attached dwarf Doric columns on high plinths, topped with an entablature. The central bay contains a round-headed door with six recessed panels set in a raised surround, and a two-light mullion window is located on the first floor. The side bays are blind.
A moulded cornice with mutules runs across all bays, and the center bay has a shaped and coped parapet featuring a recessed circular panel carved with the Dawnay arms. The central ridge stack is corniced. At the rear, there are two single lights in quoined surrounds on the ground floor and a round-headed window on the first floor. The left and right gable walls have three-window bows on the ground floor and Venetian windows above, with raking mutule cornices at the gable ends. All windows are fitted with leaded lights and have moulded sills. This lodge serves as the entrance to Wykeham Abbey.
