Description

The Royal Oak is a public house located on Main Street in Great Dalby. It dates from the mid-18th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building features timber box framing with brick nogging and is whitewashed. It has a steeply pitched roof covered with corrugated iron sheets over thatch, along with gabled slate roofs. The structure is set on a rendered rubble plinth and includes two gable and one side wall brick stacks.

The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout with four bays. The front facade has a blocked central doorway that contains a 20th-century casement window, flanked by a single 18th-century three-light sliding sash window with shutters on each side. To the left, there is a 20th-century gabled porch with a partially glazed door. To the right, a single-storey addition features a two-light sliding sash window with shutters on the left, accompanied by two smaller 20th-century casements. Beyond this, there is a plain 20th-century door. Above, there are three two-light sliding sash windows. The southwest end has a porch with 20th-century casements to the right and a central two-light sliding sash window above. The rear of the building includes a flat-roofed late 20th-century single-storey addition in the return angle. Inside, the property has chamfered span beams and two bay posts.
