Description

These two cottages, originally one dwelling, date back to the 17th century. They are timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill and a granite rubble stone plinth. The roof is tiled, with two brick stacks, one of which is missing its upper part. The front has two storeys and three 20th-century windows. The ground floor features a glazed door, a window, another glazed door with a small canopy, a further window, and a glazed door on the right-hand side. The right end of the building displays exposed timber framing, showing wall posts, straight braces, tie beams, collars, and clasped principal rafters. Inside, some of the original timber framing remains visible, along with beams, some of which are chamfered, and plaster hoods over fireplaces. One fireplace has an arched lintel and a later moulded beam above a cupboard within the fireplace area. The rear section of numbers 46-50, Market Place, was originally part of this building.
