Description
36 and 38 Market Place are two cottages that were formerly shops, part of a terrace of four, dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of granite rubble stone with a plinth, brick eaves, and a Swithland slate roof featuring a brick central ridge stack. The buildings are 2½ storeys high and have a 2-light and a 3-light centre-opening casement window. The ground floor includes two 19th-century shop windows with bracketed hoods and a four-panelled door to the right. On the left end, there is a part-glazed door, a blocked window above, and a 20th-century attic window. In front of the cottages, there is a narrow forecourt on the left end that is paved with setts.
