Description

The Market Cross is a market cross built in 1793, located in Mountsorrel. It features a stone structure topped with a leaded dome. The design includes a classical open peristyle supported by eight Tuscan columns, which hold up an entablature and the leaded dome, finished with a stone vase finial. This market cross was constructed by Sir John Danvers of Swithland Hall after he relocated the medieval cross to his own grounds. It is referenced in White's Leicestershire and Rutland from 1877 and Pevsner, and it is designated as a scheduled ancient monument.
