Description
This is a pair of cottages dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, which were refaced in the 18th century. They are two storeys high and constructed of red brick laid on a projecting plinth. A string course runs horizontally at first-floor level. The ground-floor walls are rendered up to this string course, while the eaves have a moulded wooden cornice. The roof is tiled, half-hipped on the left-hand side, with a central chimney stack tiled to the rear.
The first floor has four windows and two brick panels, while the ground floor contains a triple sash window to the left, originally a shop window, a panelled door framed within an architrave, two windows, and a six-panelled door within a plain frame on the right-hand side. The gable end on the left-hand side is tile-hung with shaped tiles and displays rectangular panels of timber framing with brick infilling. The rear of the building also features timber-framed construction with brick infilling.
The cottages are part of a group value with numbers 18 and 19, and numbers 22 to 31, inclusive.
