Description
Ashgate Gallery is a converted early 19th-century warehouse or workshop located on the south side of Lower Church Lane. The building is two storeys high and constructed of colour-washed brick with a slate roof. The first floor features two two-light casement windows on either side of a central fixed light. On the ground floor, there are two two-light casement windows, a fixed light to the left of centre, and a central glazed door. To the left, there is a two-storey extension made of red brick with an old tile roof. This extension has a small two-light casement window with small panes at the right end, two modern very small two-light windows, and a segmental-headed doorway at the left end. The building has brick dentil eaves. Attached to the taller right-hand section is a 19th-century quadrangular lamp that tapers downwards and features cresting, supported by an iron bracket. The rear wings are also clad in brick and may be older. This site was formerly an inn. Ashgate Gallery is part of a group that includes Nos 18 and 19, and Nos 22 to 31.
