Description

Nos. 81 and 83 on Main Street are two cottages built in 1842. They are constructed from granite rubble stone with a plinth and buff brick dressings, featuring shouldered coped gables with kneelers. The cottages have a Swithland slate roof with a brown brick central ridge and stacks at the rear wing. The design is irregular, with a projecting gable on the right side.

The cottages are two stories high and have casement windows, some of which retain their original iron lattice. No. 81, on the left, includes a gabled porch with a Tudor arch and a hood mould, along with the year 1842 displayed in a stone shield above. To the right of the porch is a 1-light casement with a hood mould. The left side features a similar 2-light window on both floors, with a 20th-century canopied door to the left and another 1-light window. There is also a 20th-century outshut on the left side at the rear, which has a 2-light casement.

No. 83, on the right in the projecting gable, has a 4-light canted bay window with iron lattice and a hipped slate roof, along with a 2-light casement that has a hood mould and a cambered lintel above. On the right side, there is a 1-light casement followed by a wing added in 1983, which is made of granite rubble stone with buff brick dressings, featuring a repositioned door surround and a 2-light window.
