Description
Nos. 2 and 4 on Rectory Lane are two adjoining cottages dated 1710, as indicated by a sundial on No. 4. They are constructed from coursed rubble stone with long and short quoins and feature a Cotswold stone slate roof. The roof has a central stone ridge stack with two diagonally set flues and an additional stack on the rear of the cross gable. The cottages are a single range with a cross gable on the right side of No. 2.
Both cottages are two storeys tall with an attic in the gable. No. 4 has a later 18th-century gabled porch that includes a finely moulded stone architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. The ground floor of No. 4 features a restored three-light stone mullion window on the right and a 20th-century window on the left. The first floor has two two-light stone mullion windows with a continuous hood mould and a sundial above. No. 2, to the right, has one two-light stone mullion window on the first floor and another in the attic gable. The original doorway of No. 2 is now completely obscured by a 20th-century porch extension.
