Description

The Swithland Cross War Memorial, built around 1920, is made of Swithland stone and timber and has a square shape. The memorial features a timber Celtic cross mounted on a square stone pedestal, topped with a plain capping of Swithland slate. On the front of the pedestal is a rectangular plaque of Swithland slate, inscribed with a dedication to the fallen that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF (NAMES) WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-1918 1939-1945." The monument and pedestal are set on a five-tiered stone plinth, which is paved with Swithland slate, and there are plain iron railings surrounding the plinth.
