Description
Wayside Farmhouse, along with an adjoining cottage and stables, dates from the mid 18th century and early 19th century, with later alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick that has been whitewashed, topped with plain tile roofs. It features dentillated eaves and has two brick ridge stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays, arranged in an L-plan.
On the right side of the farmhouse, there is a 20th-century lean-to brick porch that includes a 19th-century half-glazed door and a geometrical overlight. To the left of the porch, there are two three-light 19th-century casements, and above them, two similar casements, all with segmental rubbed brick heads. The cottage to the right has a 19th-century three-light casement and a three-light sliding sash, both with segmental heads. Above these, to the left, is another three-light casement. To the right of the cottage, there is a two-storey outbuilding, which has a 19th-century barred casement above it. The north gable features a two-light casement with a segmental head on the left side. The stables, located to the south, include a casement and four stable doors to the right. The rear elevation has large 20th-century flat-roofed and lean-to additions, along with a porch.
