Description
Farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century, with 18th and 20th century alterations and additions. The building is of box framing with brick nogging, although most of the exterior is rendered over, and has plain tile roofs. A granite rubble plinth is visible on the west side, while the east side has a rendered plinth. There are two rendered brick ridge stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high, plus garrets, and has three bays, arranged as an H-plan with gabled flanking wings. The windows are late 20th century glazing bar casements, most of which have shutters. The south front has a recessed centre, with a ten-panel round-headed door in a shallow recess to the left, and a three-light casement beside it. Additional three-light casements are found in each wing. Above are three matching casements, with larger windows in the left wing. The east side has exposed framing with rendered nogging, and a two-light casement above. The rendered west side has a small casement above to the left. The rear of the property has a late 20th century canopied gabled porch with a close boarded door and flanking light to the left, alongside three-light casements in each side. In the northwest gable is a French window with flanking lights. Above to the right is a two-light casement and above that, exposed V struts. Further to the right is a parallel two-storey rear range with a three-light and a single casement. To the right again, the west wing gable has a three-light casement on each floor, and a single casement above. Internally, there are framed and stud partition walls with rendered wattle and daub nogging. A central ground floor room to the south features a moulded ceiling beam, beaded joists, and a fireplace bressummer. A central rear room has a chamfered ceiling beam with run-out stops. The southwest room has an ovolo moulded ceiling beam and a framed panel with two 17th century scroll brackets set in the east wall. A three-flight dogleg stair has a winder, landings, a round newel, and stick balusters. First floor rooms have chamfered ceiling beams and two moulded wooden fireplace lintels. The roof is a 17th century queen post roof, mainly of re-used timber, with a single purlin, wind braces, and V struts. There are also remains of a stud partition.
