Description

The Barn is a former barn, stables, and cowsheds, dating to the early 18th century with later 19th and 20th-century additions, converted to a house around 1980. The building is of timber frame construction with rendered nogging, brick, and has plain tile and corrugated asbestos roofs. The north range features dentillated eaves and a single brick ridge stack. It is arranged as a two-storey, six-bay L-plan. The windows are primarily squat 20th-century glazing bar casements. The east entrance front has a centrally positioned plank door flanked to the left by a two-light 20th-century sliding sash window and to the right by a small fixed light and a two-light casement. Above the door is a former doorway now containing a two-light casement, with a plank shutter to its left, and a small casement beside it. An adjoining gabled range to the left features a pair of garage doors. The north gable has a two-light casement on each floor. The north side has a brick plinth and a timber-framed first floor, with a small casement on each floor to the right. The west gable has a three-light casement above. The south side of the north range is rendered and has false timber framing, including a 20th-century lean-to bay window with a two-light casement, a small casement, and a large 19th-century glazing bar sash. A lean-to addition is located in the return angle, featuring a 20th-century bow window. Above, to the left, are two small 19th-century casements. The return angle to the west includes a large 20th-century glazing bar casement with a segmental head and a former loading door with a two-light casement above. To the right, a small casement is present. Further to the right is a 20th-century single-storey range featuring an off-centre blocked door containing a three-light casement, flanked by single four-light casements, a wide close-boarded door, a larger three-light casement, and a single-storey gabled wing. A rendered buttress connects to a small casement and a 19th-century half-glazed door in the return angle. The west gable has a two-light casement. The building is included for group value.
