Description
The canal milepost, located south of Massey's Bridge, was erected in 1819 and produced by Rangeley and Dixon. It is made of cast iron and features a circular stem with a shallow segmental plate near the top and a moulded circular head. Near the base of the stem, there is a raised quatrefoil inscribed with 'R and D Stone 1819'. The plate has two panels: the eastern panel is inscribed 'SHARDLOW 5 MILES', while the western panel reads 'PRESTON BROOK 87 MILES'. This milepost is part of a series along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
