Description

This is a canal milepost from 1819, produced by Rangeley and Dixon. It is made of cast iron and features a circular stem with a shallow segmental curved plate near the top, along with a moulded circular head. Near the base of the stem, there is a raised panel inscribed with 'R and D Stone 1819'. The plate has two panels: one on the east side inscribed 'SHARDLOW' and the other on the west side inscribed 'PRESTON BROOK 92 MILES'. This milepost is part of a series along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
