Description

44A The Wharf is a Grade II listed building located in the parish of Shardlow and Great Wilne. This structure consists of two houses and attached stables, which have been incorporated into one of the houses. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick with concrete tile roofs and features a large rendered ridge stack along with a dentilled eaves band.

The property stands three storeys high and has two bays, with an additional two-storey, two-bay section to the north. The southern houses, Nos 44 and 44A, have a raised and fielded panelled door beneath a segmental arch and a twelve-pane glazing bar sash window to the north. Above this, there is a similar opening with a four-pane sash window, and to the south, there is a 20th-century inserted segment-headed thin staircase window. There is another flat-headed four-pane sash window above.

No 46 to the north has a similar design, but the positions of the window and door are reversed, and it lacks a staircase window. Attached to the north side is a segment-headed twelve-pane glazing bar sash window with two 20th-century windows above, which are covered by plank shutters. This building is included for its group value.
