Description
The Former Wharfinger's House is a two-storey building constructed from rubble with brick walls that have been raised, and it features a rear wing added over an earlier brick extension. The building has a slate roof with two brick stacks at the ends and another brick stack to the north of the wing. It has two windows facing the road and a tall basement storey with plank doors that open towards the canal side. The windows are sliding horizontal sashes set beneath gently cambered heads. A gabled timber porch with a finial enhances the entrance. The north gable is blind, while the south gable has a splayed bay and cambered openings in the basement. The five-sided splayed bay, supported by timber, features small-pane glazing.
Additionally, there is a brick boundary wall along the road, topped with stone capping and fitted with timber gates, which complements the bridge parapet over the Montgomeryshire Canal. This building is a prominent part of an exceptionally fine group of canal structures located at Carreghofa Locks.
