Description

The canal milepost, located to the east of Weston Grange, dates from 1819 and was produced by Rangeley and Dixon. Made of cast iron, it features a circular stem with a shallow segmental curved plate near the top and a moulded circular head. Near the base of the stem, there is a raised panel inscribed with 'R and D Stone 1819'. The plate has two panels: the eastern panel is inscribed 'SHARDLOW 2 MILES' and the western panel reads 'PRESTON BROOK 90 MILES'. This milepost is part of a series marking distances along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
