Description

The canal milepost near Weston Lock, dating from 1819, was produced by Rangeley and Dixon. It is made of cast iron and features a circular stem that is mostly buried. At the top, there is a shallow segmental curved plate with a moulded circular head. The curved plate has two panels: the eastern panel is inscribed with 'SHARDLOW 3 MILES' and the western panel reads 'PRESTON BROOK 89 MILES'. This milepost is part of a series installed along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
