Description

The canal milepost located near Weston Cliff, dating from 1819, was produced by Rangeley and Dixon. It is made of cast iron and features a circular stem with a shallow segmental plate near the top and a moulded circular head. Near the base of the stem, there is a raised square inscribed with 'R and D. Stone 1819'. The segmental plate has two panels: one on the east side inscribed 'SHARDLOW 4 MILES' and the other on the west side inscribed 'PRESTON BROOK 88 MILES'. This milepost is part of a series along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
