Description
Crofton House is a house built in the late 18th century and early 19th century, with some minor later alterations. It is constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and features a slate roof, which has a brick ridge stack and a brick gable stack on the north side. The house has a dentilled eaves band and is two storeys high with garrets, comprising three bays, with the southern bay being older than the other two.
The central entrance has a pilastered doorcase with a triglyphed frieze and a modillioned cornice, leading to a panelled door beneath a traceried overlight. On either side of the entrance are glazing bar sashes set below rusticated wedge lintels, with the southern window positioned lower than the others. Above the entrance, there are three similar windows, also beneath rusticated wedge lintels, with the southern window again lower than the others. The garrets feature horizontal sliding sashes in the gable walls.
