Description
58 Main Street is a Grade II listed building that consists of two cottages which have been combined into one. Originally built in the 16th century, the structure underwent significant rebuilding in the early 20th century and has additional rear extensions from the same period. The exterior features square paned timber framing set on a stone plinth, with painted brick nogging and corner braces on the upper panels. The roof is covered with red clay tiles and has brick gable stacks.
The building is composed of two bays and is a single storey with an attic. The front elevation displays six panels of timber framing, with two panels deep and early 20th century applied timber studding above. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century studded wooden door on the east side, accompanied by two two-light windows also on the east. Above, there are two large gabled dormers featuring two-light small paned casements. The rear and side elevations are constructed of brick.
Inside, the cottage has low ceilings and chamfered beams on the ground floor. This listing is included for its group value only.
