Description
The Hardinge Arms is a public house that was originally built as a house in the 18th century, with 19th-century alterations and a large addition from the 20th century. The building features painted brick on a rendered plinth, along with remnants of timber framing. It has a plain tile roof with two brick ridge stacks and a side wall stack on the west side. The structure consists of four bays, with parts being two storeys and parts single storey plus attics.
On the west side, there is an advanced gabled bay with timber posts on either side. The front of this bay has a central glazed door from the 20th century to the east, along with a 20th-century three-light window above it. To the east, the ground floor includes a segment-headed doorcase with a panelled door, flanked by segment-headed windows; the window to the west is a small-paned three-light casement, while the one to the east is a 20th-century casement. Further east, there is a plank door. On the upper floor, there are two three-light small-paned casements to the east and a 20th-century two-light window in a gabled half dormer on the west side. The large rear addition from the 20th century is not of interest. Inside, the building has chamfered ceiling beams. The Hardinge Arms is included in the register for its group value only.
