Description
Four Gables, located at No 36 on Main Street in Kings Newton, is a house that dates from the late 16th century and 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features small square panel timber framing with painted brick nogging on a stone plinth, as well as painted brick. It has a plain tile roof with overhanging eaves and three tall banded brick ridge stacks.
The house consists of four bays, with the eastern bay being two storeys high while the rest are single storey plus attics. The main elevation includes a central studded wooden door, which is sheltered by an open timber porch that has a gabled plain tile roof. On the western side, there are two 2-light small paned casement windows beneath timber hoods, while the eastern side features one 4-light window and another 2-light window in the eastern bay. Above these, there are four similar 2-light windows, with three on the west side set in gabled dormers, and the one in the eastern timber framed bay placed considerably lower with a blank gable above. The eastern elevation of this bay has a fixed small pane window on the ground floor and a small 2-light window in a gabled dormer above.
