Description

Broadways is a Grade II listed building located on Main Street in Kings Newton, within the parish of Melbourne. This structure comprises three cottages that have been combined into one, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some alterations made in the 20th century.

The front elevation features six panels of box timber framing set on a stone plinth, with brick nogging, while the sides and rear are finished in painted brick and rubble stone. The roof is covered with red clay tiles from the 20th century, and there are brick stacks: one at the gable end to the west and another on the rear pitch of the roof. The building is single storey plus attics and consists of three bays.

The main elevation displays a brick bay to the east and two timber-framed bays to the west. Each of the timber-framed bays is composed of three panels of timber framing, with corner braces on the outer panels. The eastern bay features a segment-headed panelled door with an open timber porch to the west, alongside a large fixed window with small panes and shutters to the east. The western bay includes a two-light fixed window with small panes beneath a timber hood. Above, there are three gabled half dormers from the 20th century, each with 2-light casement windows, the central one being bowed. The east gable wall shows the outline of an earlier stone rubble cottage at the rear, while the west gable wall and rear wall are entirely from the 20th century.
