Description
Sarson's Bridge is a canal bridge built in 1770 by engineer James Brindley, with some minor repairs. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with stone dressings. The bridge features a single segmental arch on straight jambs, topped with a plain hood and straight stone parapets. At the center above the arch, there are raised stones on either side, with the eastern stone inscribed '1770'. The top of the parapets has chamfered stone copings. The walls on either side of the arch angle outwards and finish in plain square piers. This bridge was built as part of the Trent and Mersey Canal.
