Description
This is a pair of gate piers located to the northwest of Swarkestone Hall, dating from the mid-17th century. They are constructed of ashlar stone and feature a massive design with a cruciform shape, where each corner is cut away. The piers are adorned with pulvinated friezes, moulded cornices, and ball finials that sit on moulded bases at the top. These gate piers are associated with Swarkestone Hall, which was abandoned following the Civil War.
