Description
The stable block to the north of the Crewe and Harpur Arms is a late 18th-century building that has been converted into store rooms with some minor alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with gauged brick dressings and features hipped slate roofs with a sawtooth eaves band. The structure consists of a seven-bay, two-storey central block flanked by two single-storey wings, each with three bays.
The central bay is prominent and pedimented, featuring a depressed segmental arch with double plank doors on the ground floor. On either side of this central bay, there are three semi-circular headed openings, each adorned with traceried fanlights. The northern side retains the original arrangement of small-pane casements flanking a central door, while the southern side has a similar window arrangement and two doors.
In the recessed flanking wings, there are three additional semi-circular headed openings on each side. The southern wing has windows flanking a central door, while the northern wing has a window to the south and two doors to the north. Above the central block, there are seven flat arched openings, five of which contain glazing bar sashes, while the central ones on either side are blocked. The central bay is topped with a stone pediment.
