Description
The Crewe and Harpur Arms is a public house dating from the 18th century and early 19th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and a rendered plinth. The roof is covered with large Welsh slates and features external brick gable stacks topped by stone cornices, along with a dentilled eaves band. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with a lower addition to the west. The front range is from the early 19th century, while the rear range dates to the 18th century.
The main elevation showcases an 18th-century moulded doorcase that includes a recessed plain frieze and a moulded cornice, along with a 20th-century panelled door and a plain overlight. On either side of the door, there are large flat-roofed canted bay windows featuring small pane 20th-century casements. Above these bays, there are two 20th-century glazing bar casements set beneath rusticated wedge lintels with raised keystones, and a central narrower glazing bar sash below a large plain lintel topped with a moulded cornice. The lower addition to the west has a rendered lean-to on the ground floor and a 20th-century three-light casement window above. The rear elevation is characterized by segment-headed casement windows. The building is included for its group value only.
