Description
This is a range of farm outbuildings located to the south-west of Hazelbarrow Farmhouse. The buildings date from the early 17th century, with some additions made in the mid 18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone, with some areas rendered, and feature a concrete tiled roof.
The east elevation consists of two storeys and five bays. The central bay has a tall double doorway with quoined edges and a timber lintel, above which is a shallow stone relieving arch. The lintel includes sockets for har-hung doors. At the eaves level, there is a row of bird openings and perches. A single-storey gabled range has been added to the north end of the rear elevation.
Inside, there are four roof trusses that support 20th-century sawn softwood purlins and rafters. The trusses feature queen struts and collars but no longer support a ridge purlin. The tie beams are supported by back purlins, except at the north end of the east wall, where the tie beam rests on a jowel post. From this post, longitudinal braces rise to the wall plate, along with a transverse brace to the tie beam.
The attached outbuilding to the east has three quoined doorways on its south wall and two 20th-century windows. The north wall features two quoined openings on the first floor, both with planked doors. This building is included for its group value only.
