Description
This is a mile post located opposite Hilltop Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a triangular sectioned base with a moulded front angle. The back is flat, and the head is segmental, curving forward to create a horizontal panel below. The north side is inscribed with 'DERBY/17 MILES', while the south side has multiple inscriptions: 'CLAY CROSS/1 MILE, CHESTERFIELD/6 MILES, DRONFIELD/12 MILES, SHEFFIELD/18 MILES'. The back is inscribed with 'TOWNSHIP OF HIGHAM'. Additionally, there is a raised panel on the front that reads 'J HAYWOOD JNR/ PHOENIX FOUNDRY/ DERBY'.
