Description
Three contiguous bridges at Smithymoor near Stretton Station, built around 1840, are made of coursed squared rock-faced sandstone with gritstone dressings. The central railway bridge features a segmental arch constructed from radiating ashlar voussoirs and has a slightly dropped keystone. There are sloping embankments on either side, and above the arch, there is a large roll moulded stringcourse. The plain parapets have cambered copings, and there are polygonal piers at each end. On either side of the central bridge are similar, lower bridges that cross Smithy Brook to the east and Horsecar Brook to the west. These bridges were built as part of the North Midlands Railway.
