Description
Hawksley House Farm and the attached barn date from the 15th century, with elements from 1699 and the early 20th century, and were renovated in the 1980s. The structure is built of coursed squared sandstone with gritstone dressings, featuring quoins on the east side of the house. The house has a slate roof with a stone ridge, while the barn has a roof covered with concrete tiles. There is a brick ridge stack, and the gables are stone-coped with moulded kneelers on the east side.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with irregular window placements, and the barn has three bays, although the end bay is missing. The south facade of the house was rebuilt in the last 50 years. A chamfered quoined doorcase with a lintel inscribed 'IM 1699' has been filled with a 20th-century window. To the west, there is a 2-light 20th-century casement window with a flush lintel, and to the east of the door, there are one 3-light and two 2-light similar windows. Above these, three 2-light casements are placed irregularly, with a small oval window between the easternmost two.
Inside the house, there is one open base cruck and two 17th-century bracketed stone fireplaces. The attached barn to the west has two inserted 20th-century openings. Inside the barn, there are two tied base crucks with a collar at purlin level and wind braces, but no ridge is present.
