Description

Stubben Edge Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of squared coursed sandstone rubble with a reed thatched roof. The main part of the house is two storeys and three bays wide, with lower, two-storey wings extending to the left and right. The windows in the outer bays of the main section have horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars. The left-hand ground floor window has plain reveals, while the others originally had stone surrounds with central flat-faced mullions. The windows in the central bay are narrower and also have stone surrounds. A door on the right-hand side has a quoined surround and a large lintel. A second door, to the right of the left-hand window, has plain reveals. The ground floor window of the left-hand (west) wing sits within a blocked door opening. The right-hand wing has a wide 20th-century window opening on each floor. The roofline features brick chimney caps above the gables, with sandstone copings below the current thatch level. The interior has not been inspected.
