Description

Common Bank Cottage is a house, possibly originally two cottages, dating to the mid-18th century, with alterations in the 20th century. The house is constructed of rubble carboniferous limestone with gritstone dressings, quoins, plain gables, end brick chimneys, and a Welsh slate roof with stone-slated eaves. The south-east elevation is two storeys and three bays, and originally featured two doorways, each with a substantial surround and lintel. These openings are now blocked and contain 20th-century window frames. A central doorway has a 20th-century part-glazed door. Two-light flush-mullioned windows are present in the north-east bay, with a mix of vertical sliding sashes, glazing bar casements, and fixed lights. At the south-west end, an altered two-light window is now a 20th-century two-light casement. The remaining two first-floor windows are 18th-century single-light glazing bar casements. The north-east gable is rendered.
