Description

Hockley Cottage is a house that was originally a pair of cottages, built in the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from regularly coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins, plain eaves, brick gable stacks, and a Welsh slated roof.

The south-west elevation has two storeys and three bays. The southeast end has stacked two-light flush-mullioned windows with two-pane casements. There is a quoined doorway beneath a massive lintel, which contains a 20th-century glazed door. The centre bay features a single-light 18th-century casement with a flush surround, positioned lower than the two-light window. This is adjacent to quoins that are now part of the walling of the north-west bay, which includes a doorway with plain flush jambs and a shallow lintel, a ground floor two-light casement under a deep lintel, and a first floor two-light flush-mullioned window with two-pane casements. All windows are fitted with 20th-century louvred shutters.
