Description

No. 2 Butts Road is a house that was formerly a house and cottage, dating from the 17th century, with remodelling and alterations in the 18th century, and further changes in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins, a coped east gable with a moulded kneeler, rendered gable stacks, and a plain tiled roof.

The north elevation has two storeys and attics, comprising three bays. There is an off-centre doorway with a massive surround and lintel, topped by a shallow bracketed canopy, which has a 20th-century glazed door. To the west, there is a 20th-century garage door beneath a boarded steel lintel. The east side features stacked 2-light mullioned windows; the ground and first-floor windows are of 18th-century design with flush mullions and surrounds, while the attic window has a shallow 2-light chamfered mullioned design. This window pattern is repeated above the garage door at the first and attic floor levels.

At the junction of the second and third bays, a former quoined end indicates the addition of the third bay, which includes a doorway with a quoined surround that has been blocked to create a window, along with stacked 2-light flush mullioned windows on the ground and first floors. All window openings now have 20th-century undivided casements and louvred shutters.
