Description
Ashcroft Cottage is a pair of houses built in the late 18th century, with some remodelling in the 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of ashlar gritstone and features a coped gable at the west end and a hipped end at the east. It has a Welsh slate roof and stands two storeys high with five bays.
The central feature is a segmentally arched carriage entrance, which has ashlar voussoirs and an advanced keyblock. The eastern part of the building includes a doorway with plain jambs and lintel, flanked by taller two-light windows that have flush surrounds and metal frames with transoms. To the west of the archway, there are additional two-light windows and a doorway in between, all with flush surrounds. On the first floor, there are five two-light casement windows in flush surrounds, with the window at the east end being taller than the others. The building is listed for its group value.
