Description

West Bank is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from ashlar and coursed squared gritstone, featuring ashlar dressings, advanced chamfered quoins, an eaves cornice, coped gables with moulded kneelers, gable stone stacks, and a Welsh slated roof. The building has an L-plan layout, is three storeys high, and consists of four bays, with a two-storey, two-bay range at the rear.

The west elevation displays three storeys and four bays, with altered ground-floor windows on either side of the central doorway. The doorway features a 20th-century glazed door with a 19th-century rectangular overlight, all set within a moulded surround topped with a cornice. A broad band course connects the tops of the doorway and windows. The flanking windows have flush surrounds and 20th-century timber two-light casements with transom lights above. The first and second floors have stacked two-light flush mullioned windows, except for the third bay from the north end, which has single-light openings. The heads of the openings on both floors are also linked by broad bands, and all first and second-floor openings are two-light casements with 19th-century glazing.

The property is enclosed by an attached boundary wall made of coursed ashlar blocks, topped with pointed and spear-headed metal railings. The gatepiers and corner piers are square in plan, each featuring a moulded cornice and a domed or hemispherical cap.
