Description
Milltown Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding date back to 1670, with additions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The farmhouse is built from regularly coursed squared gritstone, featuring ashlar dressings, quoins, coped gables, and both ridge and gable chimney stacks, topped with a concrete tiled roof.
The south elevation of the house part is two storeys high and has three bays. It features an off-centre doorway with a massive quoined surround and a lintel that has a drip moulding above. The plain planked door is flanked by late 19th-century window openings on both the ground and first floors, which have flush stone surrounds. Most of these windows contain single glazing-bar sashes, except for the upper-floor window, which has a two-light casement frame.
The east gable displays stacked 17th-century openings. The ground floor has a modern window frame, while above it is an altered 17th-century three-light window, now fitted with a 20th-century single-light casement beneath a drip mould. There is also a blind single-light opening at the gable apex, which features a datestone reading 'I F A 1670' beneath a drip mould.
Adjoining the farmhouse to the west is a lower two-storey outbuilding, also with a concrete tiled roof. This outbuilding has a ground-floor window on the left, with a pitching hole above it. A central first-floor pitching doorway has a 20th-century external door, and to the right, there is another ground-floor window with a quoined surround, along with a first-floor window that has two lights and a flat-faced mullion.
