Description
Hopton Manor is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings, and has a hipped roof covered in concrete tiles, with a large brick stack positioned off-centre. The building has two storeys plus attic space, and an irregular facade. A single-storey bay from the 18th century projects to the south, and is now used as a double garage. A string course is visible on the north side, below which is a moulded doorcase featuring a four-centred arch lintel and a quoined surround. There is also a blocked chamfered opening and a 6-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. A 19th-century 4-light chamfered mullion window is positioned further north. Above, there are four 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, the southern one blocked by the garage, and the northern one a larger 19th-century replacement. Two single-light recessed and chamfered windows are also present. Embedded below the eaves are two 18th-century 2-light flush mullion windows with diamond lights. Inside, a ground-floor room features 17th-century plasterwork with a ceiling divided into four panels, each with quatrefoil decoration. Evidence remains of a flat fretted baluster staircase, and a remnant of a cruck is visible on the first floor.
