Description
Townend Hall is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, which was refashioned in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with gritstone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The building has brick gable end and ridge stacks, along with stone copings and kneelers. It stands three storeys tall and has a T-plan layout.
On the south elevation, the gable wall of the house displays a recessed and chamfered 2-light mullioned window. Above this, there is a similar 3-light window that has an inserted medieval carving directly below it. In the gable, there is a small recessed and chamfered 2-light mullioned window. To the east, there is an 18th-century wing that has a massively quoined doorcase and a 3-light flush mullion window. Above this window, there is a similar window with a single light casement positioned over the door.
Inside, there is a doorcase with a lintel dated 1666 and a four canted arch that has been incorporated into the 18th-century wing.
