Description
Overtown Grange Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of well-coursed punch-dressed stone and features a modern concrete tile roof. The building has two storeys and includes a single-storey rear outshut. It follows a three-cell plan, with service rooms located at the back of the first and second cells. The farmhouse has quoins and a continuous dripmould that rises over a former door.
All the windows have been altered, with lowered sills and most mullions removed, but they still have shallow double-chamfered surrounds with almost square reveals. From left to right, there is a former four-light window with a similar window above, a blocked window, and a window inserted in the original doorway, along with a four-light window on each floor. The gables are coped and feature kneelers, with brick stacks and an additional ridge stack at the junction of the first two cells.
At the rear, the original doorway is obscured by a later lean-to, with a small chamfered window above it. The outshut projects forward and has a three-light window to the left of two two-light windows, with additional windows inserted under the eaves. The left-hand return has a large external stone stack with shouldered offsets and a doorway to the right, which has a quoined lintel and tie-stone jambs. The gable is partly rendered at the first-floor level.
Inside, the first cell, which was formerly the kitchen, features a wide fireplace opening with a shallow segmental head that is blocked. The roof has a king-post structure.
