Description
Dairy House Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble with dressed quoins and is partly rendered. The roof is covered with double Roman tiles, which were once thatched. The building features a symmetrical two-room layout with a central entrance and a 19th-century outshut added to the rear, although it likely had an original outshut.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with a garret and has a three-bay front. It includes three-light stone mullioned windows that have recessed ovolo moulding, and a central door framed by a similar architrave, leading to a panelled door. There is a continuous drip over the ground floor and separate drips over the first-floor windows. The gable ends have coped verges and brick stacks, with a garret window in the gable. The rear outshut continues the slope of the roof. Each floor has two metal casements with cambered brick heads, and there is a tall brick kitchen stack.
Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A straight flight stair with stick balusters is a 19th-century alteration. The front bay has an A-frame roof with staggered purlins on the front slope, while the rear slope has been altered to accommodate the outshut.
