Description

The barn and attached outbuildings at Rose Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century, have been converted into a single dwelling. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature stone slate roofs. The building stands two storeys high and is positioned at right angles to Rose Farmhouse, forming two sides of a courtyard. The exterior includes quoins, and the courtyard elevation features a tall segmental-arched cart-entry with a raised keystone, which has been converted into a window. To the right, there is a doorway with monolithic jambs. The first floor has three square windows with plain-stone surrounds.

Attached to the left end is a lower building that has a central doorway with monolithic jambs, flanked by windows similar to those on the first floor, all with plain-stone surrounds. At the junction with the barn, there is a first-floor doorway accessed by a flight of 13 stone steps. A hipped roof with a central lateral stack was added around 1975. The rear, now serving as the entrance front, retains a similar cart-entry and first-floor windows, along with some added windows. A 20th-century addition is present in the first ground-floor bay, along with a lean-to porch added to the third bay. The outbuilding set back to the left features three segmental-arched French windows and a first floor with a central two-light window flanked by single-light windows. This structure is included for its group value.
