WALTON THE BALK (west side, off) Barn and attached outbuildings at Rose Farmhouse

GV II Barn and attached outbuilding, now converted to form a single dwelling. Late C18. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roofs. 2 storeys. At right angles to Rose Farmhouse (q.v.) with which it forms 2 sides of a courtyard. Quoins. Courtyard elevation has tall segmental-arched cart-entry with raised keystone, now window. Doorway with monolithic jambs to right end. 3 square 1st-floor windows with plain-stone surrounds. Attached to left end is lower building with central doorway with monolithic jambs flanked by windows with 3 similar to 1st floor, all with plain-stone surrounds. At junction with barn is 1st-floor doorway approached up a flight of 13 stone steps. Hipped roof with central lateral stack added c1975. Rear, now the entrance front, has similar cart-entry and lst-floor windows and some added windows. C20 addition to 1st ground-floor bay and added lean-to porch to 3rd bay. Outbuilding set back to left has 3 segmental-arched French windows and on 1st floor a central 2-light window flanked by single-light windows. Included for group value.
