Description
Walton House is a large house built in the late 18th century, with a late 19th-century extension. It features ashlar and hammer-dressed stone, topped with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a five-bay facade, with the fifth bay containing two first-floor windows. There is a plinth, and the central three bays project slightly forward. The entrance has a doorway with an architrave and a glazed fanlight, accessed by a shallow flight of three stone steps. This entrance is flanked by tripartite sash windows, which are supported by four giant engaged Ionic columns. These columns hold up an ashlar frieze and a shallow pitched pediment, with the tympanum decorated with a carved festoon panel. The first bay also has a tripartite sash window. All first-floor windows have plain raised surrounds and 12-pane sashes. The building features an ashlar frieze, cornice, and blocking course, along with a hipped roof that has two ridge stacks and one end stack on the right.
To the left, there is a later extension with a lower roof that is not of special interest. At the rear, the central three bays also project slightly and feature an open porch with ball finials, an arched stair window above, and a blocking course with three blind recesses. The rear windows are plainer than those at the front, with projecting sills; some retain 18-pane sashes while others have been altered.
