Description
Elmwood House, originally known as Walton Villas, is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a symmetrical facade with three bays across and three bays deep. The entrance is a doorway with an overlight, set within a Tuscan porch. Each bay contains 12-pane sash windows with plain raised surrounds, and the ground-floor windows are recessed within segmental arches. The roof is hipped and there are four chimney stacks.
At the rear, the house has an L-shaped layout with windows similar to those at the front, although some are blind. The left-hand return, which faces south, features 20-pane sash windows and a doorway with monolithic jambs located between the second and third bays. The right-hand return includes an arched recess in the left bay.
Inside, the interior is largely plain, featuring six-panel doors. There is a dog-leg staircase with simple stick balusters and a swept handrail.
